What is Party Wall Surveying?

The Party Wall etc Act 1996 was introduced with the intention of creating a single piece of legislation to allow building owners to carry out certain works to party walls or excavations near neighbouring buildings, whilst also protecting the interests of adjoining owners. Should a dispute arise involving construction work on or near a shared boundary, one or more surveyors may be consulted to produce a party wall award.

A partially demolished building with exposed steel beams and green metal supports bracing the remaining walls. The brickwork and window frames of adjacent buildings are visible on either side, with the sky and some rooftops in the background.
