Breathing New Life into a Norwich Landmark: Renovation Begins at 16 Elm Hill

Renovation work has officially started at 16 Elm Hill - a characterful Grade II listed townhouse that’s stood in the heart of Norwich for over 400 years. Purslows has been closely involved from the outset, providing architectural design services and securing Listed Building Consent to get the project moving.

Now, with work underway on site, we’re continuing to support Norwich Preservation Trust by managing the building contract and acting as Contract Administrator throughout the build.

This is no ordinary renovation. 16 Elm Hill is a three-storey, 16th century property with a rich and often colourful past. Bringing it up to modern standards while preserving its original charm takes a careful balance - something we’re well versed in. From strengthening the structure and repairing the roof, to planning the installation of a new kitchen and bathroom, our role is to ensure the building becomes fit for modern living without compromising its historic character.

The £280,000 project is being delivered on behalf of the Norwich Preservation Trust, who’ve taken the lease from Norwich City Council to protect and restore the property. It’s part of a wider commitment to conserving some of the city’s most important historic buildings - and we’re proud to be part of it.

We’ve worked alongside a skilled project team including BLC Builders, architect Michael Reynolds, and quantity surveyors from Andrew Morton Associates, and it’s already been exciting to see some of the building's hidden details come to light during the early stages of work.

With completion expected in early 2020, 16 Elm Hill is well on its way to being ready for its next chapter - and Purslows is proud to help make that happen.
